DKK 2,038,131. That’s the donation of Danish retailer Søstrene Grene to Plan International Denmark from the sale of Plan-products and support to sponsored children in 2025. That’s a new record for Søstrene Grene’s annual donation to Plan International Denmark.
Most of Søstrene Grene's stores sponsor child through Plan International Denmark, where the support last year amounted to a donation DKK 876,265. The stores also sell Plan tote bags and water, which brought in a record-breaking donation in 2025 to girls and young women in vulnerable places of DKK 1,161,866 from the customers.
"I am extremely proud that we are setting a record with our donation to Plan International Denmark, so we can further support their important work to create better conditions for girls and young women in vulnerable places. This is possible thanks to all the customers who chose to buy one of our Plan products in 2025. I am also very proud that most of our stores now sponsor a child, so more children get access to schooling and a safe childhood,” says Mikkel Grene.
Support for vulnerable girls around the world
Søstrene Grene has had a partnership with Plan International Denmark since 2018 and over the years has donated more than DKK 6.4 million from the sales of Plan products. Every year, new Plan tote bags are launched for the benefit of vulnerable girls all over the world, and most of Søstrene Grene's stores now support a sponsor child.
Dorthe Petersen, CEO of Plan International Denmark, is proud of the collaboration with Søstrene Grene:
“Søstrene Grene is a really good example of a company that is ambitious about developing cross‑sector collaborations. It is a collaboration where consumers, a Danish‑owned company and we as an NGO together can really make a difference in a local community to secure children’s future opportunities and gender equality.”
The donation from the product sales goes to Plan Denmark Girl’s Fund, which creates better conditions for girls and young women in the world's most vulnerable places. The support for sponsored children gives children all over the world a safe upbringing and equal opportunities for schooling, regardless of gender and status.
Yawa is sewing her own future
One of those supported through the Girl’s Fund is 19-year-old Yawa from Togo. She became a mother at 16. She couldn’t afford to continue her education. But she is one of the 120,220 people who received support for vocational training from Plan International Denmark.
"Today, sewing means everything to me. My parents could not afford to send me to university. Sewing then became my only path. Thanks to this, I feel valued in the eyes of my parents and my community. I am convinced that in the future, it is sewing that will allow me to evolve and to help other people. That is why this means so much to me," says Yawa.
Yawa has also received education on sexual and reproductive health. In addition to her work, she teaches other young women and men how to take care of themselves. She wants to use her voice to make a difference and give other girls the knowledge she herself lacked.
Results from Plan International Denmark last year:
- Teach 202,960 young people sexual and reproductive health and rights.
- Support 120,220 people with vocational training, jobs and entrepreneurship.
- Help 182,888 children and young people with access to education.
- Teach 89,108 young people about their rights and how to advocate for change.
